I know this phrase gets used too much, but man did this year fly by, seriously it seems like I maybe blinked around Easter and now Christmas is already over.
Though this year did pass much too quickly it was a great year; I’ve “met” so many amazing bloggers, had the chance to connect with a ton of great companies, and had the pleasure of reviewing some amazing products. While most of the products I’ve reviewed this past year have been great there are a few that I love and I wanted to share those with you!
The following are my Top 7 Favorite Products of 2009!
In no particular order…there was no way I could choose one of these as my favorite!
- The Skitter! What can I say about this toy besides that my children LOVE it! My stepson decided to take the Skitter off roading this fall and sadly our Skitter didn’t survive the impact of the curb, but it was a definite favorite and I would even venture to say it was THE favorite product my kids got to review this year! You can read my full review on the Skitter here!
- Heaven’s Alchemy Perfume! To be perfectly honest I can say with certainty that this was MY favorite product I reviewed this year. I have always loved perfume and have always had a terrible time finding a scent that I love but with Heaven’s Alchemy they all smell incredible…my favorites are Kyoto and St. Petersburg. I have never left the house with St. Petersburg on and not gotten at least a handful of comments on how amazing it smells…you HAVE to check it out…you can read my full review here!
- Head Chefs! These kid-friendly utensils have been a blessing for my kids in the kitchen. We use them on nearly every episode of Cooking With My Misadventurous Kids and around the kitchen daily. I just can’t say enough good things about them. You can read my review of them here!
- Sheer Cover! I was absolutely skeptical about using a mineral foundation before I tried Sheer Cover but I tried it and have used it ever since. I love the way the makeup feels (or more appropriately doesn’t feel) on my skin and the results are just so much better than any liquid, powder, or mousse foundation I have ever used. You can read my full review and see my video demo of Sheer Cover here!
- Kidorale! I’ve been obsessed with rain boots and umbrellas since I was little and when I came across Kidorable I knew I had found something special. Their rain gear is fashionable and functional which makes it a huge hit around here! We love this company and I’m sure you will too. Check out my review of Kidorable here!
- Rebelle by Daisy Cook (Friendship Bags)! This has to be one of the best ideas ever; handbags that are designed to share with your friends! My girls love theirs and I have to admit they are quite cute! You can see my full review of Rebelle by Daisy Cook here!
- Listerine Total Care mouthwash! I know, this one may seem a little weird but this product is amazing! I can not even begin to tell you how much of a difference this mouthwash has made. It has made my smile look amazing and continues to make it even more amazing every day. You can read my full review here!
I hope you guys enjoyed all of the product reviews and giveaways on Misadventures in Baby Raising this year. I promise that the new year will bring lots of great new things to MIBR and some changes as well! If you have a product that you discovered in 2009 that you love or can’t live without let me know in a comment, I’d love to check it out!
See y’all next year!

Wow it seems like I’ve been gone from blogging forever, the break was so nice, but I’m back now and ready for 2010! I have so many great pictures from Christmas of the kids but this one is one of my favorites. Little Man thinks he’s a Rock Star (seriously he does) and when he got his drum set for Christmas he was happier than I’ve ever seen a 2 year old be…and I’ve had a headache since about 7 am on Christmas morning…thanks Santa!
Happy Wordless Wednesday!

I found something that I wanted to share with all of you moms and dads out there!
I’ve been looking for a website that offers personalized videos from Santa to your kids for a couple of weeks now and I hadn’t had any luck at all, until the other night when I stumbled on link that someone had placed on Facebook. Portable North Pole (PNP). I was ale to fully personalize a video to my son from Santa and it was the most magical thing ever. Gaige sat in front of my laptop for almost 30 minutes watching the video over and over again…it was an experience I doubt he’ll forget anytime soon!
Since I couldn’t embed the video on my blog I took a couple of screen shots and you can see them below. The whole process took less than 5 minutes and it was something Little Man enjoyed very much and I’m sure your little ones will too! And the best part of all is that it’s FREE!
I’m not sure if you can see but this is Santa’s Nice list and there is a picture of Gaige with Nice checked! So cute!
We have a winner! The winner in the Dean’s Dip giveaway is…

I have to admit that when I’m in need of an alternative to my pricey facial cleanser I reach for the baby soap. Not only is it hypoallergenic and doesn’t bother my sensitive skin, it’s a lot more affordable than pricey specialty cleaners and serves many more purposes as well. One brand that I always choose for my children but very much enjoy myself is Baby Magic.
With the economy as it is, it only makes sense to stretch every dollar and sometimes finding products that can pull double duty is a great way to save. Baby Magic’s products are great at doing double duty and saving you money! We had the chance recently to review several products from Baby Magic and I decided to put them to the test both in their traditional uses as well as the suggested alternative uses.
The first product that we reviewed was the Baby Magic Creamy Baby Oil.
Enriched with vitamins and aloe, this unique blend of lotion and oils help to soften and seal in the natural moisture that can be lacking in adult skin after exposure to the sun. Gentle emollients help remove makeup and offer all day moisture. The hypoallergenic formula is mild enough for sensitive skin, which makes it perfect.
I have to admit that I am not a huge fan of baby oil, but I love the way this creamy baby oil makes my babies skin so soft and for so much longer than regular lotions. Baby Magic suggests an alternative use for the creamy baby oil as a makeup remover and I have to say that this is a makeup trick I have used for years; in my opinion nothing takes off makeup (and softens the skin at the same time) better then baby oil, the fact that it’s creamy makes it even better.
Next we reviewed the Gentle Hair and Body Wash.
This gentle hair and body wash, which doubles as a mild facial cleanser, replenishes natural moisture as it removes excess dirt and oil.
Baby Magic suggests using the Gentle Hair and Body wash as a makeup remover as well as a mild facial cleanser and I have to again admit that I’ve done both in the past. I love the fact that I can use this baby soap to remove my eye makeup without worrying about irritating my eyes.
The last product we tested was the Baby Magic Baby Powder.
Specially formulated to absorb moisture and wetness, this powder helps reduce irritation and prevent chafing.
I use the Baby Magic Baby Powder every day as prevention against diaper rash on both of the babies and it works wonderfully. Baby Magic also suggests using the baby powder as a foot powder and body deodorizer.
If you’re looking to stretch your budget a little further why not try some of the Baby Magic products and get more bang for your buck!

I have a confession…the man in my life is super hairy. Now I’m not sure if that is something that I should admit publicly (I love you babe…and all your hair) but I’m willing to bet that I’m not the only one out there that could make that confession!
My fiancé has a difficult time finding razors and shavers that work well for him, he finds that they either don’t do the job sufficiently or they irritate his super sensitive skin. There is one brand of shavers however, that he has long been a fan of and has used almost exclusively since he started shaving, Remington. Remington is a name that is synonymous with quality and that is no doubt why my fiancé insists on only using Remington.
Remington offers a host of options for the man in your life from shavers and grooming tools for men to flat irons and hair dryers for women. We received the New Remington Men’s Flex and Pivot Triple Foil Shaver (F-5790) to review and I must say my fiancé was probably more excited about this review than any other he has helped me with. The Flex and Pivot Triple Foil Shaver features an exclusive triple foil titanium coated blades equipped with flex and pivot technology. One of the best features of the shaver is that it is rechargeable, it also features a 5 minute quick charge, and a very cool battery fuel gauge that shows you how much time you have left on your battery. The Remington F-5790 has a whole host of wonderful features as well…
- Neck Pivots freely Close, comfortable shave in 1/3 the time.
- Rechargeable Cordless and Corded Razor.
- 3 Flexing Foils adjust to your face, chin & jawline.
- 3 Position Trimmer for sideburn trimming and hard to cut hairs.
- Battery Fuel Gauge shave time indicator.
- Auto World-Wide Voltage.
- Titanium Coated Foils Strong, long-lasting, durable.
- 60 Minute Runtime for 20 Days of Shaving.
- Rinseable Design cleans quickly and easily under the faucet.
- 5 Min. Quick Charge -Battery fully charges in 2 hours.
My fiancé was very impressed with the F-5790’s quick charge capability, the shaver went from the box to shaving cordless in 5 minutes which is very handy when you’re pressed for time and don’t want to fumble with a cord. Jamie also expressed how easy the F-5790 was to operate, it’s ergonomic design made for effortless ease of use. The one problem Jamie had with the F-5790 was getting it to shave his face as closely as a razor, while the F-5790 did succeed in not irritating his face as most other shavers have, it didn’t perform as well as he would have liked it to. The underperformance of the F-5790 could have been caused by a number of reasons and his results are not necessarily what you would experience.
Buy it! You can purchase the Remington Men’s Flex and Pivot Foil Shaver (F-5790) online at Remington-Store.com and mass retailers nationwide. So why not run on out and pick up a Remington shaver to put in your honey’s stocking this Christmas or heck grab one for yourself while you’re there!

As I mentioned in a post yesterday my oldest daughters love to play school, they also love to draw and be creative every chance they get. As a mother I feel its my job to nurture that creativity and I appreciate companies that make my job that much easier!
EXPO is a company that I have been faithful user of for a long time; not only do I love their products and appreciate their approach to creativity their products, in my opinion, are superior to their competitors. I’ve noticed that with other dry erase markers the smell is really very strong and being as sensitive as I am to smell this usually causes a major headache for me, but EXPO low odor markers do definitely live up to their low odor claim. My oldest daughters use their dry erase boards almost daily from practicing math problems to drawing masterpieces, it’s a great way for them to be creative and learn and it cuts down tremendously on the amount of paper in our house.
We received the Expo Low Odor 12 pack fine line markers and the Expo bright sticks wet-fluorescent markers to review.
Expo Low Odor 12 Pack Fine Line Markers
- Smooth-flowing markers deliver crisp, consistent lines.
- Intense colors are easy to see from across the room.
- Certified AP nontoxic for safe use.
- Average Retail Price: $15
Expo Bright Sticks Wet-Erase Markers
- Provides clear, bright images on non-porous surfaces. Extra-bright, wet-erase fluorescent markers really stand out against black marker boards and ink looks neon under a black light.
- Bullet tip for precision lettering.
- Ink easily wipes off nonporous surfaces with a damp cloth.
- Certified AP nontoxic.
- Average Retail Price: $19
One gift that is always a big hit with my girls on Christmas is art supplies, and EXPO has so many amazing gift ideas that are perfect for your little artist! And I don’t know about you but a new pack of dry erase markers in my girls stocking on Christmas morning always puts a smile on their faces!
The Expo website also has a lot of great tips and fun uses for their markers so make sure you check that out here.
Buy it! Expo markers are available at mass retailers like Target and Walmart and just about everywhere art and teachers supplies are sold!

All of my children have extremely active imaginations; my oldest daughter love to play restaurant and pretend that they are school teachers teaching a room of imaginary students, and that creativity has started to rub off on the babies.
A couple of weeks ago my son walked up to me with an empty plate and a smile and said, “Mommy eat pizza!” He had made me a pretend plate of pizza and couldn’t have been more proud of himself, it was then I knew that I needed to get both a play kitchen and lots of play food for my babies to get creative with.
Around the same time I received something from Gummy Lump toys to review that my kids were very excited about; the Slice and Bake Cookie Play Food Set by Melissa and Doug. I always get pretty excited when I find new places to buy toys for my kids and when I find toys that are the quality of this one. The Slice and Bake Cookie play food set is not only adorable it’s also wooden which means that it will undoubtedly last my destructive little ones rough play. The wooden set comes with 12 cookies, 18 adorable toppings, knife, spatula, cookie sheet, and kitchen mitt; everything your future pastry chef needs to serve up some fun!
Of course the Slice and Bake Cookie Play Food set is not the only thing from Gummy Lump that I found and fell in love with…there was the Grocery Store and Lemonade Stand, and the Rock and Trot Plush Rocking Horse.
Buy it! You can purchase the Slice and Bake Cookie Play Food Set by Melissa and Doug on Gummy Lump’s website!
You can see this toy and many others in Misadventures in Baby Raising’s Holiday Gift Guide!
Normally I deal very well with stress, I mean you can’t really be the mother of four and not deal well, but lately everything has been getting to me. Stress over the holidays, kids being sick every time I turn around, school and blog responsibilities to boot, and the strain all of it is putting on my relationship with my fiancé has left me feeling majorly burnt out and in desperate need of some R&R.
Thanks to Country Inns & Suites by Carlson, I will be getting exactly what I so desperately need…a break. A night away from all of the madness at home where I can unwind and not hear “MOM” three hundred million times! Since I haven’t had an actual honest-to-goodness break from home since before my daughter (who is now 14 months old) was born and it is so hard for me to justify being away from my kids for even a day, I decided that I should make a resolution, a contract with myself that I have no intention of breaking.
- I plan to RELAX while I am chilling at Country Inns & Suites. This may sound pretty simple but relaxation is not a word I ever use when describing my intentions for myself!
- I promise NOT to call my kids every hour on the hour to make sure they are alright. Thanks to my future SIL (who is so very sweet to take on the task of caring for my two youngest kiddos) they will be in safe hands and I know that. So while I do plan on taking my phone (calm down it’s only to call and tell them Goodnight and Good morning) I will not call them unnecessarily!
- Even though I will be taking my laptop I promise myself I will do absolutely NO work while I am gone…NONE!
- And probably the most important thing…I will not feel guilty for needing a night away from my kids! This is hard for me and I struggle with it constantly, but at the end of the day I know I will come back more relaxed and that’s not only good for me but for them as well!
It’s all set this Saturday night I will be relaxing maybe working out in the fitness area (alright that’s highly unlikely), but I definitely plan on taking a dip in the pool and soaking in the hot tub! If you’re in need of some R&R then make sure you check out Country Inns & Suites current promotion…Stay 2 Weeknights and Save 20%…can’t beat a deal like that!
I will be back on Monday to give you all the details of my awesomely relaxing trip!
FTC Compliant Disclosure: Country Inns & Suites By Carlson is providing me with this free night in exchange for my review!
I know I’m a little late getting this posted, so I apologize.

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of PBM Products. All opinions are 100% mine.
Until a few months ago I was spending hundreds of dollars per month on formula for my youngest daughter. Since she was on a special kind of formula for her colic and acid reflux I was spending twice the amount that I had with my son who was born a year earlier. I was reassured many times by my daughter’s pediatrician and even urged by him to use the less expensive store brand formulas, but seeing advertisements aimed at making me believe that by doing so I was depriving my daughter of the nutrition she needed while at the same time jeopardizing her development left me weary. Not wanting to harm her in any way I folded and bought the much more expensive name brand formula…now I wish I hadn’t.
On December 2, 2009 PBM Products (the company who supplies store-brand infant formula to mass retailers like Walmart, Target, Kroger and others) won a lawsuit against Mead Johnson Nutrition company (the makers of the national-brand Enfamil LIPIL infant formula) for false advertising. Mead Johnson engaged in advertising that led consumers to believe that store-brand formula was not as nutritionally sound as their more expensive counterparts, that advertising in turn led to cautious parents (like myself) spending hundreds more a year for the national-brand formula. PBM Products was awarded $13.5 million in damages and parents everywhere breathed a sigh of relief. In these hard economic times it’s good to know that you can save money while still providing your family with quality products.

For Bryson!
Please take a moment and say a prayer for Shellie and her family…they need all the love and support they can get right now! Their family suffered an unimaginable loss yesterday and we all need to remember them in our hearts and our prayers at this very difficult time.
In the night of death, hope sees a star, and listening love can hear the rustle of a wing.
~Robert Ingersoll~
If you would like to join us in commemorating sweet Bryson then please take a picture of a candle that was lit in his honor and be sure to add your link to the linky!
It is amazing that something so vast as the internet can bring together so many people from many walks of life, who’ve never “met” but have still had such a huge impact on our lives.
Yesterday a fellow mother and blogger endured something that no mother should ever have to endure, she lost her 2 year old son in a tragic drowning accident at their home. I’ve never “met” Shellie, @Military_mom from Blog4Mom.com, and I don’t know her except in passing on Twitter and on MomDot but that doesn’t change the fact that my heart is broken for her and her family. I cannot pretend to know the pain she feels and I cannot image how hard this time is for her, but I do know that she is in my every thought and prayer and I hope that you’ll take a second and add her and her family to yours as well.

If you have a special guy in your life; be he your husband, boyfriend, father, brother, maybe even son, then you know who Rocky is and chances are pretty darn good that you’ve been roped into watching one (or all) of the Rocky movies. My fiancé is a huge Rocky fan and I have to admit I’ve seen all of the movies (more than once). He has been telling me for a year now that he would love to have the Rocky DVD collection and for a year I have completely pretended like I didn’t hear him.
A couple of weeks ago I was given the chance to do a review for Rocky the Undisputed Collection on Blu-Ray, talk about coincidence. The collection includes 7 discs: Rocky, Rocky II, Rocky III, Rocky IV, Rocky V, Rocky Balboa, and a Bonus Disc with over 3 hours of bonus features. The Bonus Disc includes a Blu-Ray Exclusive Interactive game: Felling Strong Now (which was a big hit at our house), In The Ring documentary, Behind-The-Scenes and Boxing Featurettes, Video Commentary with Sylvester Stallone, and much more!
I have to admit that even I was a little intrigued by this Blu-Ray collection, and while I won’t admit to watching the movies, I did very much enjoy the Bonus Discs and all of the interesting information they contained! My fiancé on the other hand was in heaven with this collection and was very pleased by both the quality and the content!
My fiancé's overall review of Rocky the Undisputed Blu-Ray Collection?
Need I say more?
Buy it! Why not give the man in your life something he’ll always cherish this holiday? Rocky: The Undisputed Collection [Blu-ray] is available at Amazon.com and retailers nationwide.

Around here breakfast is the most important meal of the day, it’s also the busiest and pickiest meal of the day. It seems that no matter what I decide to cook, someone is always unhappy with my choice. There is however, one breakfast item that my children request time and again…pancakes. It’s not that I mind making pancakes, I mean hey I love them, it just takes forever. By the time I’ve made enough pancakes to feed all of my hungry kiddos an hour has gone by and there’s no hope for me setting down to breakfast with my family. Then there are the times when I’m busy with deadlines and homework and I just cannot seem to pull myself away from the computer long enough to spend an hour making pancakes, and since my fiancé does not cook (ever), it’s always nice when I have something quick and easy for the kids that they can pop in the microwave and make for themselves.

Recently I had the chance to do a review for Aunt Jemima frozen pancakes (the Gods must have been listening to me grumble as I stood at the stove flipping flap jacks). Since pancakes are such a huge hit around here I was more than happy to except this yummy review. Aunt Jemima frozen pancakes come in a variety of breakfast solutions sure to please every member of your family including; Home-style, Buttermilk, Low Fat Buttermilk, Whole Grain, Mini-pancakes, and their new flavor Blueberry pancakes. Here are some yummy tidbits from the Aunt Jemima website:
With over 100 years of experience, Aunt Jemima is the pancake expert. From our fun Mini Pancakes, to our better-for-you Whole Grain offering, Aunt Jemima pancakes are a warm, nutritious breakfast for the whole family. And they're ready in minutes out of the microwave or toaster.
We were able to try the Aunt Jemima frozen pancakes as part of our review, we choose the Homestyle pancakes (though I would have chosen Blueberry had my store carried them). I was a little worried about how the pancakes would taste since I do not prefer food cook in the microwave (for myself) but I was pleasantly surprised at how yummy they were. Of course the kids loved them as well.
Aunt Jemima is also running a very cool contest right now encouraging you to “Capture Your Morning Moments on Camera” for the chance to win a family vacation! You can find out all of the details of this great contest (which ends December 31) here.
Just in time for the holidays Aunt Jemima is giving you a fun way to bring some holiday cheer to breakfast by encouraging your kids to play with their food. Aunt Jemima has given us some great recipes to bring a little more fun to breakfast using their frozen pancakes. So I wanted to share a couple of these very cute creations with you!

While I love the holiday season, I find it very stressful. Gifts to buy and wrap, events to attend and enjoy, and parties…it’s the holiday parties that stress me the most. I love having the chance to catch up with family and friends that I haven’t seen in a while but I detest worrying over what I’m going to bring to each holiday party we attend.
I’ve been a fan of Dean’s Dips for quite some time, given my aversion to cooking, premade dips are right up my alley. It seems that no matter what party I go to I always end up getting roped into doing a veggie tray (maybe they’ve all figured out that I can’t cook) and I always make sure to include a cool, creamy container of Dean’s Dip in the middle. When I was given the chance to do a review for Dean’s Dip I was more than willing considering I’ll be spending a small fortune on Dean’s in the next couple of weeks.
Dean’s Dip comes in a variety of flavors including French Onion ( a favorite at our house), Ranch, Creamy Taco, Guacamole, Skinny Dips (a lighter more figure-friendly version of the originals), and even Pretzel Dips. We chose to review the French Onion Dip for a couple of reasons; (1) we love French Onion so it seemed like an obvious choice and (2) our WalMart had only one variety of Dean’s Dip (really WalMart?). I think besides the taste (which rocks) I really appreciate the fact that it’s super affordable and very creamy.
You can also click on the banner below and enter the Dean’s Dipstakes Sweepstakes to win all kinds of cool prizes including the Grand Prize…the Ultimate Home Entertainment Center!
The Dean’s Dip website also have some really yummy recipes that would be a great addition to your holiday party! I think the Fire Cracker Chipotle Spread is definitely on my list!
- Prep Time: 10 minutes
- Servings: 6
- Ingredients:
-
- ½ cup Dean’s Ranch Dip
- 2 teaspoons finely minced canned chipotle pepper in adobo sauce, or to taste
- 4 ounces (1 cup) shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 thinly-sliced green onion
- Assorted crackers for serving
- Directions:
-
Combine Dean’s Ranch Dip and chipotle pepper; mix well. Mix in cheese. Garnish with sliced green onion. Serve with crackers for spreading.
Dean’s Dip Tip: For an extra, extra spicy dip, use shredded Pepper Jack Cheese.
-
And just in time for the holidays Dean’s is giving one (1) lucky Misadventures in Baby Raising reader a Dean’s Prize Pack to help you kick up your holiday party! One winner will receive 3 vouchers for FREE Dean’s dip, a stadium blanket, and a Dip tray.
Win it! To be entered in this giveaway please leave a comment on this post telling me which dip you would like to try most. This is mandatory and must be completed before any extra entries are eligible!

With the holiday season in full swing it’s only a matter of time before we’re attending holiday parties and overindulging on cakes and candies. I know that no matter how hard I try I cannot seem to turn down all the heavenly sweets that await me at the holiday parties I attend…hey it’s Christmas we’re supposed to overindulge…right? Of course, I do worry when all is said and done about how negatively those sugary sweets have affected my teeth, but I’ve got a secret weapon on my side…Listerine.Just in time for the holidays Listerine wants to help you “Eat Your Sweets and Keep Your Teeth Too” sounds good to me. This season Listerine is rolling out a collection of festively packaged products that make the perfect stocking stuffers. The people at Listerine want to help you get in the holiday spirit by spending some time together as a family, and what better way to do that than by making a gingerbread house?
The Williams Sonoma No-Bake gingerbread house kit is a great way for the whole family to have some fun and make some yummy memories. The family-friendly kit includes a building tray for the foundation, sturdy precut gingerbread walls and colorful (and yummy) candy decorations. The gingerbread house is easily assembled and is sure to create lasting holiday memories you and your loved ones will cherish.
Of course, after all that fun and lots of candy Listerine has a few great products to make sure your smile is still picture perfect for holiday photos!
Brush away gingerbread crumbs with the new exclusive brushes from Reach. You’ll have no problem getting your little one to brush with the festive patterns on these brushes; I have a feeling mom and dad may think brushing with these tooth brushes is a little more fun as well. And with these new and improved brushes that are designed to clean and remove more plaque in hard to reach places, your smile will thank you!
