It’s the most wonderful time of the year….
Yeah, I know, I know, but I love Christmas. I swear nothing makes me happier on a cold December night than snuggling up on the couch with all of my kiddos (and hubby), with a cup of hot chocolate (extra marshmallows please) and a good Christmas movie. Since I know that there are many of you who enjoy that simple act of watching holiday movies with your little ones as much as I do, I thought I’d share a couple of cute new Christmas movies that I just had the opportunity to check out so maybe you can add them to your holiday movie list as well!
We recently had the chance to review two new holiday movies from Cinedigm; “The Secret World of Santa Claus: Elves in Toyland” and “The Secret World of Santa Claus: A Present for Santa”, both with an SRP of $14.95 available from Cinedigm.
About “The Secret World of Santa Claus: Elves in Toyland” and The Secret World of Santa Claus: A Present for Santa”:
Kids and families will count down to Christmas with the DVD debut of the beloved international sensation, The Secret World of Santa Claus! The two special two-disc sets each feature a dozen episodes of the timeless animated series. In “The Secret World of Santa Claus: Elves in Toyland,” Santa, his reindeer and trusty elves sleigh into a land full of enchantment. But when they arrive, they find the meddlesome Gruzzlebeard has cast a wicked spell on the toys, making them come to life. With Christmas fast approaching, Santa and his elves must undo the maleficent magic before it’s too late…! And in “The Secret World of Santa Claus: A Present for Santa,” children work with Santa’s elves to make him a gift so he won’t be the only person on the planet who never receives presents on Christmas. While they’re hard at work, the dastardly Gruzzlebeard unleashes hungry termites that nearly eat Santa’s house, along with his trademark suit with special powers! Santa is very distressed, but when he awakens to a big present outside, courtesy of the children, he discovers all hope is not lost.
My children, especially Lil Diva and Lil Man, love Christmas movies and these two were no exceptions. My kiddos have watched both movies several times now and each time I find them glued to the television (not a small feat, believe you me) so I’mpretty sure that means they really enjoy them!
You can pick up both of these movies wherever Cinedigm movies are sold!

I hope everyone’s enjoying our Holiday Gift Guide…make sure you check back often for lots more great gift ideas for the whole family and for lots of great holiday giveaways!
My Lil Diva is at home with me everyday (due to her birthday falling just after the cutoff for kindergarten, she gets an extra year with Mommy…I am NOT complaining) and trying to keep a 5 year old entertained isn’t always as easy as one might think. Since Diva’s days will be much more structured once she enters kindergarten, I try to keep her busy with both structured and free play and when she has the chance one of her absolute favorite things to do is putting together puzzles. All of my children definitely get their love of puzzle building from me, it’s nothing for me to buy a 1500 piece puzzle and spend every free moment putting it together, it’s very therapeutic, and that love has rubbed off on my kids. One of the reasons I encourage puzzle building as much as I do, especially with Lil Diva, is because it combines education (problem solving, learning patience, hand-eye coordination) with fun and that’s a win—win for both of us!
While traditional wooden puzzles are the ones I usually choose for Lil Diva, I couldn’t resist trying out the new iJig Interactive Electronic Puzzle System from Fisher-Price, when I was given the chance. You’d think since trying out new toys is just part of the blogging gig (at least it has been for me), I wouldn’t get overly excited with another one, but nope, that’s so not the case, because I couldn’t wait to get out the iJig and try it out…and I’m not even ashamed to admit that Lil Diva was no where to be found while I was playing. Before I get into more detail about the iJig, I thought I’d show you a little demo of the iJig at work…you’re going to love this one…I promise!
How cool is that?
About the Fisher-Price iJig:
Fisher-Price I-Jig is the unique interactive electronic puzzle & game system with three modes of learning and discovery for hours of engaging play.
Mode 1: Smart Puzzle - An interactive jigsaw puzzle that cues your child with encouraging phrases and fun sound effects to help him learn hand-eye coordination, objects and sounds.
Mode 2: Find & Seek Game - Your child will learn sound, object, color and counting skills. Each puzzle offers a unique set of exciting discoveries.
Mode 3: Discovery Time - Each puzzle & puzzle key come with a unique Discovery Time Game for a unique play experience with each puzzle. The three separate levels of game play allow the I-Jig Interactive Jigsaw Puzzle to grow with your child, helping them to master basic skills and move on to more complex learning while having fun.
I’m pretty sure that the iJig from Fisher-Price is going to be at the top of quite a few holiday wish lists this year and for good reason…this thing is seriously fun! If you have a little one who loves puzzles, then you should definitely check out the iJig…did I mention that you can also buy other puzzles and puzzle keys? The fun never has to end!

Lil Diva loves putting together puzzles, seriously, most days she can be found sitting at the dining room table putting together and then taking apart (and then putting together again) her favorite puzzles, it's one of her absolute favorite things to do. I love that she can be creative, while also working on memory and hand-eye coordination all while doing something she loves. The Tickety Toc puzzles feature pieces that are the perfect size for Lil Diva's small hands and she hasn't stopped putting it together since it came...I think that means she likes it!

Our family loves to play games and though we don’t have a dedicated Family Game Night (setting one up is definitely one of my goals next year), we do love every opportunity that we have to share that time together as a family. Of course, when you have children who range in age from 15 to 5, it’s not always easy to find a game that the whole family can play and enjoy, but with Fisher-Price Barnyard Bingo, we found a game that the little kids can easily play and the big kids don’t mind playing with them!
About Fisher-Price Barnyard Bingo
FISHER-PRICE® BARNYARD BINGO: A barnyard full of animal and color matching fun awaits! This game helps preschoolers learn their colors and identify different barnyard animals. Kids pull the lever and “BOING”… a chip appears! The first player to get the three coins that match the color of his or her fence cards wins. For 2-4 players.
Product Highlights
- Three game levels of varying difficulty that grow with your child
- Animal Names & Colors game has players name the bingo chip colors and animals and make the animal sounds
- Players have to match all three color chips to their fence in the Matching Pairs game
- The Memory Match game is a race to see who can match three animal chips to their fence card first
- Encourages thinking, problem solving, sharing, cooperation, curiosity, discovery and fine motor skills
- Comes with the Barnyard Bingo™ farm, 12 animal bingo chips, four plastic fence cards, two label sheets (adult assembly required) and a parent guide with extended play and learning ideas
If you’re looking for the perfect game for the little animal lover on your holiday gift list, you should definitely check out Barnyard Bingo from Fisher-Price and at less than $15, it’s sure to be a hit this holiday season and you can find it wherever Fisher-Price products are sold!

I love Christmas, I know, I’m like a broken record, but it is just so true and I’m so excited by all of the Christmasy things that are going on right now (shopping, wrapping gifts, the lights, the baking, the gift giving) that I just can’t help but say it over and over. One of the reasons I love Christmas most is because I love giving gifts to others, seriously, nothing makes me happier than to see a smile creep across someone’s face because of a gift I gave—I love that feeling. While I always try to give a gift that I know the recipient will love, sometimes it’s a lot easier said than done and when I’ve run out of ideas and options and gift cards just seem too impersonal, I do still have a secret weapon—Personal Creations!
I’ve been a fan of Personal Creations for a while now and I am always blown away by the number of personalized items they carry and the quality of the finished product—I am always 100% satisfied when I place an order with them. Since I have been a Personal Creations customer in the past, it only made sense for me to work with them on a review when I had the opportunity. I would be lying if I told you that I wasn’t excited about working with personal creations—I was—and my experience with them for my review was much like the others I’ve had—totally awesome!
I received a gift code to shop for an item (or two or three) from Personal Creations for my review and to be honest, the hardest part was sticking to budget (I always want to buy nearly everything I see on the website), but I did manage to get a few great gifts for some of the people on my list and still come in under budge—score! I know you’re dying to find out what I bought, but first I want to tell those of you who might not be familiar with Personal Creations, a little more about them!
Personal Creations are “unique personalized gifts for life’s special occasions” and I think that is a great way to describe them as it is so fitting. Personal Creations specializes in helping their customers give gifts that are “one of a kind” just like the people receiving them and they’re pretty darn good at it too. They have a large selection of personalized gift items for all types of occasions including, personalized baby gifts, wedding gifts, birthday gifts, anniversary gifts, Christmas gifts and SO much more! If you’re looking for a gift as special as the person you’re giving it to, Personal Creations has something (and chances are a lot of something's) that’s perfect!
Back to my review, as I mentioned earlier, I had a $65 gift code to Personal Creations to shop for my review item so I took the opportunity to order a few gifts for a couple of people on my own holiday shopping list. First up was my mother and my mother-in-law, both of which are incredibly hard to shop for. I’m always stuck between buying my mother something that I would like and buying her something that she can look at but not really use and I was determined not to do that this year. Since both my mother and my mother-in-law drink coffee in the morning, I decided to look at the selection of personalized mugs and found two that are absolutely perfect for them!
I love that they are personalized with all of the grandkids names and for only $16.99 each (including personalization) you can’t beat it! I love knowing that I’ll be giving our moms a gift that will bring a smile to their faces every time they use them and in my book, there’s no better gift than one that warms the heart and makes someone smile! Since I’m already talking about glassware, I thought I’d tell you about the cute personalized shot glass I order for my BIL Travis, he kinda collects them and when I saw the one below I immediately thought of him—I think he’ll like it…what do you think?
What do ya think? I think they’ll be many shots taken from that glass this New Year’s Eve!
Now onto the last gift I picked up from Personal Creations, I couldn’t resist looking through the personalized toys and I found the absolute cutest, most adorable plush bear even and I knew it would be perfect for Lil Diva. The Pajama Bears come in either pink or blue and are adorable little brown bears dressed in bunny pajamas—it’s seriously the cutest bear ever! I know Lil Diva will love her Pajama Bear to pieces and be so happy and proud that it has her name on it—done beautifully I might add. If you have a little one who loves plush animals, in your life, you can’t do wrong with this, it’s too cute!
Now that you’ve seen my purchases and have heard me sing the praises of Personal Creations, I hope you’ll check them out for all of your personalized gift needs, they are simply the best and will be my go-to store for all of my personalized gift needs!
You can “Like” Personal Creations on Facebook and Follow Personal Creations on Twitter for the latest news and product updates! Also make sure you check out our 2012 Holiday Gift Guide for great last minute gift ideas! Happy Holidays y’all!

With the changing seasons comes the chance for me to add some much needed winter pieces to my lil’ ones’ wardrobes and what would winter be without the addition of a snowman to your wardrobe?
If you’ve been a MIBR reader for long enough, then you’ve probably heard me talk about MyBabyClothes.com. A few months ago Lil’ Diva reviewed an adorable 2-piece dress/leggings combo from MyBabyClothes.com and it’s been one of her favorite pieces ever since! So it was only natural when I began thinking about which companies I wanted to feature in our holiday gift guide to include MyBabyClothes.com!

As soon as the package arrived I couldn’t resist the urge to have Lil’ Diva try it on—since words can’t adequately express how she felt about it I’ll just show you!
MyBabyClothes.com has a great selection of baby clothes so if the snowman tutu set isn’t your thing, and honestly how could it not be—unless you have all boys and in that case this is a bad idea, you definitely won’t have a problem finding something you love! It’s time for more Holiday Gift Guide goodies—are you ready? Here we go!
My children love books and I’ve tried since they were all very young to get them as interested in reading as possible! Thankfully my interest in reading (and reading to them) has helped my oldest daughter’s become excellent readers and has made my youngest children eager to follow in their older siblings footsteps!
My oldest daughter, Taylor, has been reading at the college level since the 5th grade (she’s currently in 7th grade) and she amazes me with how much information she retains and how interested she is in a variety of subjects! One of her favorite subjects is science and one of her favorite things to read about are interesting facts—that’s why I was super excited when we were given the chance to review Ripley’s Believe it or Not! Strikingly True—it was right up her alley!
Ripley’s Believe it or Not! Strikingly True, is Ripley’s newest annual in its multimillion bestselling series! Strikingly True is an all-new collection of the strangest stories from around the globe. “ A mind boggling array of incredible and bizarre facts, stories, interviews, lists and features are all presented in a bright new design. Look out for a special section on weird Olympic facts, and some stunning features on tattooed ladies, ancient mummies, and walls of death, among many others. Strikingly True also includes a dramatic 8-page gatefold pullout that celebrates the sideshow performers who appeared at Ripley’s first ever Odditorium—at the 1933 Chicago World’s Fair. With something strange to entertain and shock every member of the family, Strikingly True is sure to continue to massive success of the expanding Ripley’s book brand.”

Last year my children were addicted to Zhu Zhu Pets, and while they still adore the furry little creatures they have also began to explore the vast world of toys, thanks in part to Nickelodeon and all the toy commercials. Normally Lil Diva prefers baby dolls and monster trucks to stuffed animals, but that all changed as soon as she was introduced to PetCakes!
If you’ve never heard of PetCakes let me be the first to fill you in on what you are missing! Petcakes are adorably delicious pets with a major sweet tooth! Here’s some more about PetCakes from their website:
Well Made™ Toy Manufacturing Corporation, introduces PetCakes™, a new collectible plush pet line that will be a sweet treat for children ages 3 & up. Each PetCakes animal features a "frosting" hat, comes nestled in its own cupcake wrapper and has its own whimsical backstory. At first look, children will see a delicious cupcake but will then be surprised by the pet they find snuggled inside! Combining sweet faces and cuddly plush with a clever cupcake theme, PetCakes are collectible and provide hours of open-ended imaginative play. PetCakes make perfect gifts for a special friend and for pet lovers. They are ideal for birthday party favors, stocking stuffers and as rewards for good grades. Most of all, PetCakes deliver the kind of fun kids eat up! Lil Diva LOVES her PetCake Twinkle Sprinkles!
We received 4 of the cute and cuddly PetCakes for our review; Coco Coconut (the poodle), Blueberry Buddy (the Shar Pei ), Twinkle Sprinkles (the Beagle and Lil Diva’s favorite PetCake), and Randy Candy (the loveable and oh-so-cute mutt). As soon as Lil Diva laid eyes on the PetCakes it was over, she was head over heels for the puppies in an instant. I do have to say that they are very cute, and I love the idea of presenting them in “cupcake wrappers” with icing and sprinkles and a cherry…very cute and very original! I generally don’t let my children have stuffed animals (because stuffed toys are like potato chips—they can’t stop at just one), but I made an exception for the PetCakes. Lil Diva really does love her PetCakes, Twinkle Sprinkle goes with Diva wherever she goes…they are inseparable and it is adorable! I can’t tell you how many moms have seen Lil Diva carrying around her little puppy at the store and stopped and asked where we got it from and how cute it was…if that’s not good feedback I don't know what is!
Look for a whole new line of PetCakes debuting in 2011, the line will feature new puppies, kittens, bears, rabbits, raccoons ! You can check out PetCakes and SO many more great holiday gift ideas in MIBR 2010 Holiday Gift Guide!

When I was growing up we had several traditions for the holidays; we always had a big Thanksgiving dinner with all of my aunts and uncles (my grandmother had 7 kids), a HUGE Christmas party the weekend before Christmas, and my personal favorite my mom reading The Night Before Christmas to my sister and I on Christmas Eve. Though all of those traditions are ones that I look back on fondly it is the tradition of reading The Night Before Christmas that I now do with my own children on Christmas Eve and thanks to Hallmark I can read that story to them every night no matter where I am.
Hallmark may be best known for their cards and ornaments (which I also love), but their line of recordable storybooks is sure to be an instant classic and holiday must-have for parents and grandparents. Hallmark’s line of recordable storybooks are something that I only recently became familiar with, but already I adore them! I love that I can record an entire story for my babies and that they can have me there with them reading that story every night no matter where in the world I am! Hallmark’s Recordable Storybooks currently offer 15 titles ranging from beloved stories like Guess How Much I Love You? and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star to holiday classics like Frosty the Snowman and The Night Before Christmas. The recordable storybooks offer beautifully illustrated pages complete with the full story so that your child can read along with you as they get older. Recording your story is as easy as pressing a button and reading the story, but don’t worry about getting it perfect the first time as you can re-record as many times as necessary to ensure perfect delivery. Once your satisfied with your telling of the story you simply flip the lock switch and your story is saved (even if you change the batteries).
We received The Night Before Christmas to review, it seemed fitting as this is a story I enjoy reading to my children every Christmas Eve. When I was ready to record it really was as simple as pressing record, reading, and pressing stop. I finished recording the story relatively quickly, but spent forever trying to figure out what I had done wrong recording as the story wouldn’t play back once I had finished, I finally re-recorded the story and everything worked fine. My recordable storybook seems to be a little finicky as it doesn’t always want to work when I want it too, but when it does (and it does always eventually stop throwing a tantrum and work beautifully) it’s pure magic…don’t believe me? Check out the video of Lil Man and Lil Diva enjoying the story!
How completely cool is that? These recordable storybooks make great gifts for the holidays and because saving money is always a good thing this weekend only Saturday November 6th and Sunday November 7th you can save $10 OFF on Hallmark Recordable Storybooks with any purchase (at Hallmark Gold Crown Stores nationwide). To find out more about the Holiday Open House Weekend and to get your $10 OFF coupon you can visit Hallmark.com or you can get your coupon here!
You can find Hallmark Recordable Storybooks and so many other great gift ideas in Misadventures in Baby Raising’s 2010 Holiday Gift Guide!
All of my children love music, it is a love that they have expressed nearly every day since birth. When I was pregnant with each of my four children they all responded so well to music and each had their favorites. That love for music has not died down one bit, as a matter of fact, that love has only gotten stronger.
My taste in music is very eclectic, I enjoy most genres and I’m very happy that my children have the same taste as I do when it comes to what they listen to. On any given day driving in the car you can hear a little Eminem (from his latest album), The Eagles, and maybe even some Taylor Swift. When I was asked recently to review the CD Funky Kidz I was more than happy as I know how much my children enjoy new sounds. Funky Kidz is a 12 track compilation featuring music that we all know and love kicked up with a little New Orleans funk! Funky Kidz was also voted 2009 Album of the Year by Creative Child Magazine!
Here’s a little more about Funky Kidz from their website:
A fun-filled musical journey for the whole family!
This musical recording is a compilation of classic children’s songs, familiar to both kids today and parents of yesteryear. The songs are meant to invoke happy memories of childhood for everyone, while exposing children to the funky, high-instrumentation sound that oozes out of the Crescent City.
As a funky mother of two, I was disappointed by the offerings of children’s music and set out to expose my kids to a variety of musical genres. From the time they were in my belly, I played everything from hard rock to classical ballads. My sons, Jake, 9 (assistant producer) and Aidan, 5, took a love to New Orleans funk and so the concept was born… take kids songs and just make them funky.
So here it is. . .play it in the car, at home or wherever you want and jam out with your children; they’ll love it and trust us, you will too!
Executive Producer and Funky Mama,
Lauren Busch Singer
With songs like Somewhere Over the Rainbow and This Little Light of Mine, Funky Kidz brings children the gift of a new sound (with the funky rhythms and melodic sounds of New Orleans) and takes us moms and dads (granny’s and grand pa’s) back to our childhood with the familiar, yet new songs. As soon as I popped Funky Kidz into the CD player my youngest children were up and dancing to the music and I was enjoying their happiness while also remembering listening to the same songs and dancing along when I was a kid. Lil Man and Lil Diva loved the music and found a new favorite song (This Little Light of Mine).
