It should not be looked at as doing something for someone, but assisting them in making their life better and fulfilling. We stressed that giving back, means helping others and giving of themselves. It is an act of responsibly and not generosity. We have so many things that we do as a family.
We help out every 3rd Sat of each month for our Share Food Ministry, which helps feed 100 families in our community. We arrive at 7:00 am to help unload the semi truck, sort the boxes of food for the families to arrive at 9:00 am. During the Holidays our big guy Ty organizes a toy drive for the same families. It makes a big impact on the kids, they are developing people skills, making new friends, and they are learning that we are making a difference, by stepping up and doing something to help others.
Our guy Ty wanted to do a service project at the church, he felt it was a good project for them, because they always gave back to the community, and he wanted to give back to them. He made this into his BSA Eagle Project, he was able raise funds to purchase a variety of 32 trees, including a few fruit trees. He got a nice group together and they planted them all in one day. The church is very happy with the project.

My family visits the homeless shelter once a month. Every month, our kids pick out toys and clothing to give to the kids in the shelter. They are participate in this and look forward to donating and making a difference.

My kids know what itmeans to hve and have not, what it means to share and to give witout thinking selfish thoughts. My kids do many things- we do angel tree, we do senior homes, boxes for the troops but I think the favorite is when my kids go work on yards of senior citizens in the summer and do not charge them- they know they should not be in the heat. I do not get into their deals but am proud of what they do.
I volunteer at our community police station and at the kids school.

We try to give back by donating to our local food bank. Also, our little ones are active in helping our senior citizen neighbors with chores and providing meals too. It's not much but a little start for us to grow on.

My kids have been taught since birth the importance of giving back. They are quite aware how much more they have than others in the world. For years now we have volunteered at the food bank, taken part in the community baby shower, as well as donating and collecting for the local version of toys for tots. I have been so proud of my kids for handing over their own things to other kids that otherwise would not have the opportunity to have it. I can't tell you how many times my kids have opened up presents and insisted that they go to another child instead. I can only hope that my kids will continue to be kind and help others in need! The libraries in our area have never really recovered after Hurricane Katrina. We believe that libraries are of critical importance and public funds just aren't enough to make all of the repairs necessary. We give back by doing repairs, volunteering at book sales and donating to our local libraries.
