fash·ion·is·ta - noun \ˌfa-shə-ˈnēs-tə\
: a designer, promoter, or follower of the latest fashion…
Don’t let the name fool you, Sporty Spice, is a fashionista at heart! Not only does she know what’s hot (and what’s not) in fashion at any given moment, she knows how to put pieces together and make them work, no matter how crazy they seem, like no body’s business. I have to admit, I’m simultaneously shocked and impressed that my child is as fashion forward as she is considering she’d rather shoot hoops with the boys than paint her nails and do her hair with the girls most of the time. Since Sporty Spice is so into fashion, I thought she’d be the perfect child to help me review a few pieces from the GUESS Kids Spring 2013 line.
Before we get into the specific pieces that SS helped me review, I want to talk a little about the GUESS Kids Spring 2013 line, which features none other than iconic GUESS model Anna Nicole Smith’s little darling Dannielynn Birkhead! Also in the campaign is Peyton Edmonds, daughter of music legend Babyface. The GUESS kids images were shot on the beach in Malibu by Elliston Lutz and directed by Paul Marciano, Creative Director at GUESS? Inc. and depicts the same sense of wonder and fun that is embodied by the GUESS kids brand.
“Dannielynn has the same playful spirit that her mother had on a set,” said Paul Marciano, Creative Director for GUESS?, Inc. “She is a second-generation GUESS girl, which makes this campaign a first for us.”
I’ve always been a huge fan of GUESS, I mean, growing up in the 90’s, when models like Anna Nicole Smith donned her GUESS jeans, made it really easy for me to love the brand. My love of GUESS has continued into adulthood and when I had kids, it only seemed natural for me to dress my kids in GUESS as well. That said, I was pretty excited to check out a couple of pieces from the GUESS Kids Spring 2013 collection and so was Sporty Spice! Never one to miss an opportunity to model some cute clothes, Sporty Spice couldn’t wait to take a few pictures in the name of fashion, you can check out Sporty Spice and two completely adorable pieces from the spring 2013 line below.
Sporty Spice’s top is the Big Girls Sublimation Top (available on on guesskids.guess.com for $42.50) and she’s also fearlessly rocking the Daredevil Skinny Jeans (also available on guesskids.guess.com for $34.50…like SS’s GUESS threads? We’re still celebrating back-to-school and I thought it would be cool to give all of you a little something, something from one of my favorite brands…Guess. Guess has always been one of my favorite brands…I remember back in the day, if you weren’t wearing a pair of Guess jeans then you were definitely NOT cool. I definitely still adore Guess for me, but have you seen the completely adorable kids fashions that Guess Kids is cranking out? Then you have to check this out!
Check out some of their fabulous fall fashions and see why Guess thinks Jackie Evancho (the twelve-year-old classical crossover prodigy) is the perfect choice to represent the Guess kids brand.
Guess Press Release:
Jackie Evancho got her big break at just ten years old as the runner up on American’s Got Talent. Her first release for Columbia Records, a Christmas EP titled O Holy Night, was certified Platinum and earned Jackie the distinction of being the top-selling debut artist in 2010 as well as the youngest solo artist ever to go platinum and debut in the Top 10. Making her acting debut, she has been selected to play Robert Redford’s daughter in “The Company You Keep,” a political thriller that Redford will direct and produce that will premiere this fall. Jackie’s new album of classic movie songs, entitled Songs from the Silver Screen, will be released October 2.
“Jackie represents the GUESS ideal of the freedom to pursue a dream,” said Paul Marciano, Creative Director for GUESS?, Inc. “She is amazingly talented and super focused for someone so young. It was a pleasure to work with her.”
The GUESS kids campaign was shot in Los Angeles by Elliston Lutz and directed by Paul Marciano. The girls’ looks incorporate playful ruffles and traditional polka dots and stripes into its designs, as well as bold plaids and fun graphics. A strong use of dark wash denim in skirts, indigo jackets, and also faded and destroyed jeans creates the ideal rock-star look. Pops of hot pink, bright orange and deep red enliven the dark hues of the fall collection. Jackie is accessorized with soft grey beanie hats, matching fleece scarves, and edgy aviator sunglasses, while electric guitars and studio microphones complete the rock scene.
The boys’ looks pair plaids in a saturated berry color palette with denim in dark washes and nautical accessories add contrast. Layering is the perfect way to create a fierce ensemble, and is seen here with jeans and denim jackets mixed with chambray button-ups and white crew-neck undershirts. Frayed striped scarves and infinity scarves mixed with loose beanie hats and fire-red jackets complete the laid-back looks.
As a mom, I appreciate that Guess always seems to get it right and the fact that my kids love Guess and their fall line speaks for itself!
