Tomorrow (well today actually) is the first day of school for the teens and tween, can someone say Hallelujah…not that I’m celebrating or anything and in the spirit of back-to-school I thought I’d share a few lunch-packing tips with y’all, courtesy of Dole Fruit Bites…

  • Leverage last night’s leftovers. Add instant rice to leftover chicken or transform leftover steak into a hearty chili
  • Share a smile. Cut sandwiches into different shapes with cookie cutters, or write a note on a napkin
  • Camouflage healthy snacks. Dole Real Fruit Bites are made from real dried fruit, coated with yogurt and sprinkled with toasted whole grain oats – Kids won’t be trading this snack
  • Keep it cool. Think outside the thermos, and try freezing a yogurt cup or a juice box
  • Snack attack. Grab snacks for your desk drawer or purse so you can have a quick bite

One of the biggest struggles I find myself having with my children, especially my older children, is getting them to snack healthy!  Between the endless supply of sugary snacks on the grocery store shelves and their sneakiness when it comes to getting their hands on those snacks, it’s not always easy to make sure that they are snacking as healthy as I would like them to.

Dole-Apple-Real-Fruit-Bites
When I was asked to try Dole Real Fruit Bites I was excited to see if my children would choose them in place of the normal sugary snacks that they usually go for.  When I received the Real Fruit Bites I put them on the kitchen counter and waited to see which of the kids would choose them as an after school snack, it didn’t take long before Lil Man tore into a pack (expecting raisins) and came to me with this confused, yet surprisingly happy look on his face…I think that meant he liked them!

For those of you who don’t know, Dole Real Fruit Bites are real dried fruit bites covered in yogurt and sprinkled with toasted whole grain oats and at only 80 calories, these fruit bites are the perfect snack option for everyone from hungry toddlers to dieters in need of a little sweetness!  Available in Apple, Pineapple and Mango, Dole Real Fruit Bites are perfect for snacking on the go or for night owls like me, they are a great alternative to left over Easter candy at 1 am!

review

We received the Dole Apple Real Fruit Bites to review and I have to tell you, it was a huge hit at our house!  All of my kiddos love fruit (thank goodness) and apples are their favorite!  I left the Dole Real Fruits Bites on the kitchen counter where the older kids’ after-school snacks are usually stashed…it didn’t take long for the kiddos to start snacking on the Dole Real Fruit Bites and then commenting on the new yummy snack!

thoughts

All of the kids loved the Apple fruit bites, as a matter of fact, they’ve liked them so much that they’ve requested them on almost every shopping trip since!  Given the fact that my children love Dole Real Fruit Bites and the fact that they are so not a diet deal breaker, I don’t so much mind that my kiddos ask for them often…it gives me a great excuse to buy them…a total win-win!

Alright y’all we’re back with our Summer Must-Haves and this weeks theme is my absolute favorite summertime activity…Backyard BBQ!

www.ppasomin.com.ph/pmogensan/images/dole_logo.jpg

Now I don’t know about you, but in my neck of the woods BBQ’s are a rite of passage and a regular occurrence in the summer! I love the chance to spend time with family and friends, watch all of the kids play, play some corn hole and eat some fantastic food!

Today I am featuring one of my absolute favorite summertime treats…Smoothies!  Thanks to DOLE I had the chance to make lots of great smoothies and share them with the people I love most!  With DOLE Frozen Fruit making great tasting, frosty smoothies was a breeze!  DOLE has a huge selection of their Frozen Fruit: blackberries, strawberries, sweet cherries, mango (a personal favorite), pineapple, raspberries, peaches, mixed berries, mixed fruit, and tropical fruit.  I also have some great tips from DOLE on using their Frozen Fruit!

· Using DOLE Frozen Fruit is a more economical way to cook since you can use a little and save the rest for later, ensuring nothing goes to waste!
· DOLE Frozen Fruit is more uniform in size and flavor, which optimizes recipe outcomes.
· DOLE Frozen Fruit is ideal for toppings, baking, fruit salads or simply as a healthy snack.
· DOLE Wildly Nutritious Heart Healthy Mixed Fruit is a colorful mix of pineapple, strawberries, peaches, honeydew and mangoes.
· DOLE Wildly Nutritious Immunity Blend - Tropical Fruit is a delicious mix of pineapple, mango, golden kiwi, papaya and strawberries.
· DOLE Wildly Nutritious Antioxidant Blend is a nutritious mix of strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries. Each serving of DOLE Wildly Nutritious Antioxidant Blend provides double the industry standard of effective antioxidant activity.

Even though our local grocery store didn’t have a very big selection of the DOLE frozen fruit we were able to pick out a few varieties to make our Smoothie Party a hit!  One of our favorites was a Blueberry/Strawberry mix…it was awesome.  Of course, the Mango was out of this world too!  One of my favorite things about the DOLE Frozen Fruit is that is comes in re-sealable packages, which makes it super easy to use small amounts and store the leftovers with no hassle!  DOLE also has tons of great Smoothie recipes on their website, here are a few of my favorites!
