If there’s one thing that’s always in high demand around here, it’s snacks.  While I don’t mind giving my children snacks occasionally, sometimes the snacks they crave are just all kinds of bad for them and I refuse to give in and let them have them, which almost never ends well for Mommy.  Recently I was introduced to a company who makes healthy snacking their business, quite literally, and I can’t wait to tell you all about them!

Gourmet Basics is the company behind Smart Fries, an air popped, healthy snack that won’t expand your waistline!  With summer nearly over and back to school in full swing,  indulge in a health alternative when packing an on the go snack. At Gourmet Basics, our most popular product, Smart Fries (which is only 80 calories per serving,) has a wide variety of flavors to satisfy your cravings including: Cinnamon Swirl, Classic Sea Salt, Cracked Pepper & Salt, Garlic & Rosemary, Honey BBQ, Honey Mustard Onion, Jalapeno Trio, Vinegar Splash, and Vintage Cheddar.

Gourmet Basics was awesome enough to send us some of their super yummy Smart Fries to try out and it took no time for my kiddos to dive right in and choose their favorites!  Before I give you the lowdown on how we liked Smart Fries, I thought I’d tell you a few of the reasons I love them!

When it comes to snacking, I almost always reach for something salty (thank goodness I don’t often have a sweet tooth) so Smart Fries were right up my alley.  I have to admit, I was a little skeptical at first, I mean I wasn’t quite sure how I would feel about the Garlic & Rosemary or the Honey Mustard flavors, but I figured I’d never know unless I gave them a try—so I did.  While I didn’t love all of the flavors (I didn’t care for the Honey Mustard or Vinegar Splash) I did find a few of the flavors SO very good (my favorites were the Cracked Pepper & Salt and Vintage Cheddar) and my husband devoured the Jalapeno Trio.  Of course, the real test was my kids, they might eat nearly everything in sight on any given day, but they are also super picky.  While my kiddos didn’t enjoy all of the Smart Fries flavors (they couldn’t handle the Jalapeno Trip and didn’t care for the Classic Sea Salt flavor) they did really seem to enjoy them; their favorites seemed to be Cinnamon Swirl and Honey BBQ as those were the flavors that didn’t even last until Daddy got home from work.

The Verdict?

We really liked Smart Fries!  The kids enjoyed the variety of flavors and I liked that they aren’t bad for them…that’s a win—win in my book!
