Mother’s Day Fun Facts ~ Misadventures in Baby Raising

If you’re a regular reader then you know I like to put a humorous spin on everything—including Mother’s Day! So instead of a sappy poem, or a cute graphic, I decided to find some fun mom facts for you all to enjoy!

Just the Facts

Number of Moms in the world…2 billion (82.5 million in the US alone)

Average Age of a new Mom…25

4.3 babies are born each second

72% of moms with children over the age of 1 work (wonder if they included bloggers in that?)

CHORES

Women spend 2.2 hour per day on average doing household chores vs. 1.2 hours per day by men (um that is completely debatable)

Laundry: women do 88% of laundry (totally 330 loads per year…in my house it’s easily twice that number)

Diaper Changes: 7300 by baby’s 2nd birthday

Diaper Changing Speed: Women/2 minutes, 5 seconds (yeah maybe if we’re diapering a baby doll…my personal best is just under 30 seconds…you have the be fast around here) vs. Men/1 minute 36 seconds (it is so obviously a man who came up with this number)

A preschooler requires mom’s attention once every 4 minutes or 210 times a day

Preschooler moms spend 2.7 hours per day on primary childcare vs. 1.2 hours per day for dads (once again I think this number is not at all close to the actual amount of time spend mothering.

Amazing Momma’s

Record for most kids: Mrs. Vassilyev of Russia gave birth to 69 children between 1725 and 1765

Oldest Mom: Rosanna Dalla Corte gave birth to a baby boy when she was 63 years old in Italy in 1994

Heaviest Newborn: Signora Carmelina Fedele gave birth to a 22 lb 8 oz boy in Italy in 1955
