I don't quite remember when it started exactly but it was at least a few months ago...my son was introduced to french fries (sure he could have had them sooner than he did, but he has this horrible habit of not chewing anything and I am always worried that he's going to get choked on whatever he's eating). Anyway giving my child a french fry was the worst mistake I have ever made as a mother...seriously!

To say that Bub is a picky eater would be an understatement, he's way worse than picky. There are a handful of things that I can get him to eat; french fries, crackers (which in my opinion are the second biggest mistake I've made with him), cereal, pasta (notice a pattern here), and bananas! Anything else and he throws the biggest fit I've ever witnessed! He flat out refuses to eat anything else and it worries me. I have started making my own pasta sauce crammed full of as many veggies as I can possibly incorporate without them being noticed, but that's just not enough...he needs to eat a variety of foods and I have no clue how to get him to do it! I have never had this problem with any of my other kids and it really concerns me. I asked the pediatrician about it and he tells me it's a phase, offer him new foods, I'm sure he'll outgrow it, well that's not good enough for me and when I tell you he won't eat anything else I mean it...I try but he refuses time and time again...and I need help!

Have any of you ever had this problem? What did you do about it? Do you have any suggestions? I'm open to trying anything at this point. All idea are greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

  1. Oh ya..the ole french fry addiction.
My little D is a fussy eater. He also loves the same thing your Bub does.
What I do..(because we have a behaviour worker at our house for Joe ) on her advice..(from Jon and Kate plus 8) is put whatever we are having on his plate..just a teeny bit..and see if he'll try it.
Also I stopped making him his own meals..(ok..kraft dinner..cuz that's all he'd eat)
He is doing somewhat better...but he will remove stuff from his plate that he doesn't plan on trying..and he gets very upset .
oh ya..since he's been sick..i've let him eat his crackers and noodles..

  2. Trickery is the key. lol my kids always thought fish was chicken. I would give them cold string beans that they could dip into yogurt to make it fun. carrot muffins. you get the point. now they both eat everything.

  3. I've been very lucky with my kids. They're good eaters. Sorry I can't really help you out, but I know it's a very common issue.

  5. We have similar problem with the 4 year old. She would eat past 3X aday 7 days a week if we would let her.
However, all 3 kids 4 and under LOVE whipped yogurt.
so we let them have yogurt and soetimes we can camaflag fruit in it or if we feel especially energetic, we let them dip their fruit in it themselves.
And pancakes hide a multitude of good stuff in them if you konw what I mean...raisins, blueberries, strawberries etc.
Good luck with your picky eater.
