Alright so my son is an addict! What may you ask is he addicted to? Noggin. For those of you that are scratching your heads wondering what on earth that is...it's a channel for Preschoolers by Nickelodeon but it's all preschool shows ALL THE TIME!

Now from 8:00 a.m. until his bedtime if this damn channel isn't on my son paces (yes he paces around my living room on his short, chubby little legs) like something is majorly wrong. For anyone out there who is deeming me a bad mother for allowing this to happen let me first assure you that there are only 3 shows that my son actually watches...the rest of the time it's purely background noise, but there lies the problem. My son can be setting happily looking at books, or playing with trucks, or whatever it may be, not paying a bit of attention to the TV...until that is I change the channel or even worse turn the television off. As soon as that happens his head spins around (think the Exorcist) to the direction of the television, he jumps up, starts babbling something that I swear resembles quite a few cuss words, and runs to the television and stands there...waiting for me to turn the television back on to his show. When I do all is right with the world...he'll stand at the TV for a few minutes pretending to watch whatever nonsense happens to be on (I'm convinced that he does this purely to show me that he was watching it in the first place, just in case my remote finger gets itchy again...kids are way smarter than we give them credit for) and then return to playing with his toys with not one thought of the television. If I don't turn the television back on all hell breaks lose and my sweet, innocent son turns into a monster! I now know the theme songs to every single show on that channel, I know that Dora has a backpack and Diego has a rescue pack (which come on they are the SAME thing), and I know Yo Gabba Gabba is a seriously scary show that no child should watch (of course it just so happens that it's one of the shows my son LOVES...go figure).

My point? I need to buy another TV for me...a television that is only programmed for the Food Network, VH1 (I love me some Rock of Love...and most of the other stupid reality shows on that network), and BRAVO...I don't need any other channels just those and I'll be happy! I think that's what I'll do this weekend...go shopping for a Mommy TV!

I can not be the only mom experiencing this problem...please tell me I'm not the only one!

  1. Hysterical! We have a TV addiction here to, although I try to limit it. Noggin is the best babysitter ever, although I agree, Yo Gabba Gabba is disturbingly weird.

  2. Oh man! Do I remember those days! My youngest is 13, so we didn't have any of these. BUT I had to endure Barney. OMG! If heard Barney singing one more time I was going to poke myself in the eye! It would have been much less painful! I think he stopped watching Barney around 4 or 5 but not let us get rid on the tapes until he was about 10 "in case he wanted to watch them again". Yikes!

  9. I feel your pain. My 3 year old daughter is addicted to noggin. When she wakes up the first thing out of her mouth is I want to watch my noggin. She has now even memorized how to change it to noggin on the remote control. My problem is that her favorite show is Gullah Gullah Island. Which shows at 1 in the morning here. She will literally stay up to watch it and sometimes go to bed around 4 in the morning. Why must noggin be so addicting?
