I know it’s not even Thanksgiving yet, but this past weekend I managed to talk my husband into putting up our Christmas tree—am I crazy?

I’ve been trying to talk my husband into putting up our Christmas tree for weeks now—yes, sadly since right after Trick-or-Treat—like literally we came home, checked candy and I was like, “So Jamie, feel like getting out the tree?”

Of course he looked at me like I had three heads, and I didn’t get my tree up that night, but I was on a mission to get it up—before Thanksgiving!

So, last night was THE night, I finally talked him into helping (I hate putting the tree up myself—I actually just set back and direct the others on what to do).   So naturally like every other second of my life, I posted about it on Facebook, and while for the most part the response was positive (lots of likes) my best guy friend decided to let me know that I was showing Thanksgiving no respect.  Hmmm, I hadn’t really thought of it like that before.

Am I majorly disrespecting Thanksgiving by having my tree up before turkey day?  I really don’t think so as we celebrate Thanksgiving as happily with the tree (maybe even a lil happier) as we do without it.

What do y’all think?  When is it too early to put up the Christmas decorations?  When do you put up your tree?  And just in case you’re totally against putting up the tree before Thanksgiving…just look at how cute Lil’ Man and Lil’ Diva are hanging ornaments—that’s reason enough for me!

  1. I can totally relate to your post! I actually found it googling "Am I decorating for Christmas too early?" (I google this EVERY year!) I do NOT think you're showing Thanksgiving "no respect." Here is what I think: This is the holiday season. I feel like the holiday season starts November 1 and goes until the first week of January. Thanksgiving falls WITHIN the holiday season...the fact that I have my home beautifully decorated most years in Christmas decor doesn't mean that I don't love and enjoy Thanksgiving! I am thankful year round, day in and day out...I don't spend Thanksgiving at my home though, so my favorite thing to do after spending Thanksgiving day with family at our aunts house is to come home to a beautifully decorated house, plug in the tree and sit back and ENJOY! I think of Thanksgiving as a wonderful day within the holiday season. And I think it makes it even more special if you DO have Thanksgiving at your house, to have your home filled with the warm coziness of the tree lit up! To each their own! But I do wish people would remember that if THEY don't want to put up their tree before Thanksgiving, there is nobody making them. They don't need to be party-poopers for all of those that do enjoy having theirs up for Thanksgiving as well though!

  2. I couldn't agree with you more! I love everything about the holiday season, Thanksgiving included, but for me there's just nothing like seeing a beautifully decorated, sparkling tree in my family room to warm my heart and make these gloomy winter days a little brighter!

So glad I'm not alone in my love of decorating early!

  3. My fiance and I put ours up on Sunday. It started out because we wanted to make sure our tree fit, but since it came with lights, we wanted to plug it in and see how it looked. That snowballed into put up the ornaments. Its our first xmas in our own place (been together 5 years), so we were excited to decorate. Since neither of us will be awake most of thanksgiving we are essentially skipping it. I am in asset protection for Walmart and have to be back @ my store by midnight for the black Friday maniacs, and my fiance has to be at his store (gamestop manager) at 3am, it just made sense.

The part that gets me annoyed is when we put a pic of our first tree up on facebook and people were tearing us apart, which completely ruined it for me. Ugh

  4. Hi Laurie!

First off, congrats on getting your own place (that is the best feeling ever!

I think it's awesome that you put your Christmas tree up already (I too, was WAY excited to get mine up)and to heck with the people on Facebook! This is how I see it, if it makes you happy (and it obviously does) then who cares what anyone else thinks..right? I think it's awesome that you and your fiance are full of Christmas spirit...this world could probably benefit from having a few more people like the two of you in it!

It sucks that y'all won't get to spend Thanksgiving together celebrating your new place, but there's always next year! Don't work too hard on BF and thanks a TON for stopping by and commenting!

  5. We always put our tree up over Thankgiving break, usually the day after Thanksgiving. I'm not sure why I have this aversion to putting it up any earlier, it's just what we do! That being said, who cares! If you want to put your tree up and leave it all year, or put it up on Halloween, that's your right! I agree with Hillary that the "Holiday Season" runs from Nov 1 - mid January, so who's to say when the "right " time is to put up the tree!

  6. Henrietta,

This is exactly what I used to do every single year and this year I just couldn't wait any longer. I'm actually very surprised that my husband agreed, but was so happy that he did!
