I’ve been extremely lucky in that all of my children have always been big readers; whether they’re reading chapter books for leisure or just making up stories to go along with the images in their story books, they all love books and reading.
While I admittedly do not do very many book reviews, I do love the opportunity to introduce my children to new characters and stories so I couldn’t say no to reviewing LuLu in LA La Land as it sounded like a perfect book for my tween Sporty Spice.
About Lulu in LA LA Land…
Children’s’ book author Elisabeth Wolf has seen it all, but has also missed out on a lot.
As a mother of two tweens, former Communications Director for a California Governor, Congressman, US Senator, several Mayors of Los Angeles, and with a husband in the entertainment industry, Elisabeth spent years running around Los Angeles, juggling parenting, work, and family duties.
Lulu in LA LA Land (Aug. 6, 2013) tells the story of loveable Lulu Harrison, daughter of Hollywood’s A-List couple: the busiest parents of them all.
Using her storytelling expertise (she is a PR pro, after all), the characters, settings and themes in Elisabeth’s new kids book, reflect on scenes from Elisabeth and her family’s day-to-day life.
· Lulu is written in a screenplay/novel format, inspired by Elisabeth’s daughter, who would rather read a screenplay of a TV show than watch it on screen. Kids love TV—Lulu shows kids what their favorite shows and movies look like before they become the real thing.
· Lulu is Elisabeth’s ode to her favorite city, highlighting the culture and lifestyle that is unique to LA through visits to the Hotel Bel Air, food trucks, her favorite famers’ markets and fashion hot spots like Fred Segal.
I thought Sporty Spice was the perfect person to review this book for me since she loves reading, but sometimes seems to struggle with the standard chapter book format. I think writing the book in screenplay format really helped SS to get into the characters and settings within the book and helped her enjoy it that much more. SS loved the Lulu character and said that she’d most definitely recommend the book to girls her age who love adventure and fun!
