I grew up watching (and pretending to be) most of the Disney Princesses and one of my absolute favorites has always been Ariel from "The Little Mermaid".  I mean, who wouldn't want to be a mermaid that also happens to be the sea king's daughter, live in the ocean and hang out with totally cool fish all day?

Alright, obviously as an adult I don't still think it would be as cool to be a mermaid as I once thought, but I have a daughter who I see constantly reliving my childhood fantasies thanks to the Disney Princesses and none is more near and dear to her than Ariel.   Lil Diva will be overcome with excitement when come October 1, "The Little Mermaid" will be splashing its way into homes everywhere with its much anticipated debut on Diamond Edition Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, Digital Copy and HD and SD Digital formats!  Disney is also releasing a Blu-ray 3D Combo Pack that allows families to experience Ariel’s underwater adventures like never before in wondrously immersive 3-D. This Combo Pack includes the Blu-ray 3D, a Blu-ray, a DVD, a Digital Copy, plus a 10 Music Track Download.

In addition to being one of the most celebrated animated films ever, The Little Mermaid is also a two-time Academy Award winner (Best Original Score and Best Original Song “Under the Sea”).  "The Little Mermaid" tells the magical story of mermaid Princess Ariel and her funny and lovable sea creature friends, Sebastian and Flounder.  If you've been fortunate enough to see the movie for yourself, then you know how easy it is to become engrossed in and truly want to be part of Ariel's world.  I'm just as excited as my daughter is that Disney has decided to release "The Little Mermaid" from their vault (for a limited time of course) and I can't wait to watch the fully restored (picture and sound) movie and the tons of bonus features (including the Part of Your World music video performed by Carly Rae Jepson and getting to know Harold The Merman, the poor unfortunate soul who didn't make the final edit).

If you're as excited about the release of "The Little Mermaid" Diamond Edition as we are, then make sure you check out the official Disney The Little Mermaid website where you can find games, movie clips and lots of activities for your little one to keep busy while she (or he) is waiting on October 1.

Guess what?  I have one copy of THE LITTLE MERMAID Diamond Edition 2-Disc Blu-ray+DVD Combo Pack with Digital Copy to give away to one very lucky MIBR reader!

It’s been a long time since I’ve been excited about a new movie, I’m talking long time (think 90’s and Clueless), but that excitement is coming back in a big way with Disney’s, “Saving Mr. Banks”, that hits theaters in December.  “Saving Mr. Banks” is inspired by true events and is the is the extraordinary, untold story of how Disney’s classic “Mary Poppins” made it to the screen.  One of my favorite movies of all-time is “Mary Poppins”, so I truly cannot wait to see this movie and hear all about the backstory!

Here’s a little more about the movie that stars Tom Hanks as the iconic Walt Disney (“Saving Mr. Banks” is actually the first time in cinematic history that man behind the Disney empire has ever been depicted in a film) and the lovely Academy Award winner Emma Thompson and a peak at the new poster for the movie, which by the way, is arguably my absolute favorite movie poster ever—it’s genius!

Two-time Academy Award®–winner Emma Thompson and fellow double Oscar®-winner Tom Hanks topline Disney’s “Saving Mr. Banks,” inspired by the extraordinary, untold backstory of how Disney’s classic “Mary Poppins” made it to the screen.
When Walt Disney’s daughters begged him to make a movie of their favorite book, P.L. Travers’ “Mary Poppins,” he made them a promise—one that he didn’t realize would take 20 years to keep. In his quest to obtain the rights, Walt comes up against a curmudgeonly, uncompromising writer who has absolutely no intention of letting her beloved magical nanny get mauled by the Hollywood machine. But, as the books stop selling and money grows short, Travers reluctantly agrees to go to Los Angeles to hear Disney’s plans for the adaptation.
For those two short weeks in 1961, Walt Disney pulls out all the stops. Armed with imaginative storyboards and chirpy songs from the talented Sherman brothers, Walt launches an all-out onslaught on P.L. Travers, but the prickly author doesn’t budge. He soon begins to watch helplessly as Travers becomes increasingly immovable and the rights begin to move further away from his grasp.
It is only when he reaches into his own childhood that Walt discovers the truth about the ghosts that haunt her, and together they set Mary Poppins free to ultimately make one of the most endearing films in cinematic history.

I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to see “Saving Mr. Banks” and don’t forget, SAVING MR. BANKS opens in theaters limited on December 13, 2013 and opens nationwide on December 20, 2013!  You can also Like Saving Mr. Banks on Facebook and Follow @disneypictures on Twitter for the latest!

See you at the movies!

As many of you know we have a big family and with six kids ranging in age from 14 down to 4, it’s not always easy for us to watch a family movie that all of the family members will enjoy.  Thankfully, there are a few movies that bring us all together and leave us all feeling a little more like one big happy family when they are over—like The Odd Life of Timothy Green!  If you’re unfamiliar with The Odd Life of Timothy Green, I can’t wait to introduce you to this heartwarming movie that was an instant hit at our house.

The Odd Life Of Timothy Green

The Odd Life of Timothy Green stars Jennifer Garner (Cindy)  and Joel Edgerton (Jim) as the Green’s, a happily married couple with everything but a child to share their love.  After failed attempts at trying to conceive, Cindy and Jim write down all of the things they wish for in a child, put  their wishes in a box and bury it in the back yard.  That very same night a young boy, covered in dirt, with leaves seeming to sprout from his legs shows up at the Green’s door calling himself Timothy and thus begins the story of Cindy, Jim and Timothy as a family.  Cindy and Jim, their small town of Stanleyville and nearly everyone else who comes in contact with Timothy is shown the power and beauty in being different.

Between the positive message, which to our family was “being different can sometimes be the best thing ever” (as one of my children put it) and the fact that The Odd Life of Timothy Green is one of the first movies in a long time that our entire family could watch together and enjoy, I have to give it 2 thumbs up!  I love that my children were able to easily understand the underlying message of the movie and that it served as an opportunity for them to learn to be more tolerant (a message I try to drive home constantly) .  If you’re looking for a family-friendly movie with a good positive message, great characters and a fun story—you should definitely check out The Odd Life of Timothy Green, I think you’ll love it!  Check out the trailer below!

The Odd Life of Timothy Green will be available on DVD/BLU-RAY December 4th!  You can also check out The Odd Life of Timothy Green in Misadventures in Baby Raising’s 2012 Holiday Gift Guide, it’ll make an excellent stocking stuffer for someone on your list this holiday season!
I also have a copy of The Odd Life of Timothy Green for one very lucky Misadventures in Baby Raising reader…this giveaway is a very short one, so pay close attention to the ending date and time and make sure to watch your emails to see if you’ve won!

If there’s one Disney movie that I adore, besides Cinderella because that is my absolute all-time favorite animated movie ever, it’s Beauty and the Beast!  When I found out that Disney was re-releasing Beauty and the Beast in 3D January 13., 2012 I could barely contain my excitement—getting to take my girls to see this movie is theatres is just thoroughly awesome!

Wanna take a sneak peak at the Beauty and the Beast 3D trailer? I thought so…check it out below!

Walt Disney Animation Studios’ magical classic “Beauty and the Beast” returns to the big screen in Disney Digital 3D™, introducing a whole new generation to the Disney classic with stunning new 3D imagery. The film captures the fantastic journey of Belle (voice of Paige O’Hara), a bright and beautiful young woman who’s taken prisoner by a hideous beast (voice of Robby Benson) in his castle. Despite her precarious situation, Belle befriends the castle’s enchanted staff—a teapot, a candelabra and a mantel clock, among others—and ultimately learns to see beneath the Beast’s exterior to discover the heart and soul of a prince.

Featuring unforgettable music by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken, and an enormously talented vocal ensemble, “Beauty and the Beast” was the first animated feature to receive a Best Picture nomination from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Notes:
The film was nominated for six Academy Awards®, winning Oscars® for Best Song, by the renowned Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, and Best Original Score (Menken).

“Beauty and the Beast” was the first animated feature to cross the $100 million plateau in its initial release.

  • Alan Menken has been nominated by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences 15 times with seven wins.  Prior to his death in 1991, Howard Ashman received six Oscar® nominations with two wins.
  • Three years after the film’s debut, “Beauty and the Beast” hit Broadway. The musical opened at the Palace Theatre and ran in New York for 5,464 performances between 1994 and 2007, becoming the eighth-longest running production. It has played in 13 countries and 115 cities and continues to enchant audiences worldwide.

If there’s one thing that I can count on to bring smiles to my kids faces it’s being curled up on the couch beside mommy and daddy with a big bowl of popcorn and a Disney movie!

image

Since I can remember I’ve loved all things Disney; the characters, the movies, and the magic that only Disney can create and inspire!  When I became a Mom I knew that I wanted my kids to love and appreciate Disney as much as I did, so I started collecting Disney movies for my oldest daughter Taylor before she was even born.  As Taylor got older her movie collection grew and as I began having more babies the collection grew even bigger—and today we have an entire entertainment center stuffed full of Disney movies.  Thankfully my husband appreciates our collection of movies as much as I do, and I would kinda be a liar if I said he didn’t enjoy watching them almost as much as the kids do!  While I’ve acquired most of our movies here and there over the years I love the Disney Movie Club because not only are they Disney owned, but they have amazing deals on our favorite movies—like right now new members can snag 4 Disney movies for just $1 with FREE shipping and handling—how cool is that?!

As my kids grow older I know that my collection will start to shrink as they graduate and move out and inevitably take a few movies along with them, but for now I take comfort in the fact that on any given night (or day) I can gather my kiddos up, pop some popcorn, and turn on a Disney movie and all is right with the world—and that’s kinda a big deal for a mom!

This past weekend was crazy at our house, we were super excited that we were slated to host a “Phineas and Ferb:  Across the 2nd Dimension” screening party, but also super bummed that our Lil Man was feeling pretty yucky.

We were supposed to host a “Phineas and Ferb:  Across the 2nd Dimension” screening party on Friday (the night the movie premiered on the Disney Channel, but our plans were changed at the last minute due to 2 back-to-back trips to the emergency room with my Lil Man.  Due to a very nasty, very contagious, stomach virus I made the decision to cancel the party Friday afternoon when Lil Man ended up back in the ER, needless to say, there were quite a few upset kiddos (mine included) but we tried to make the best of it by holding our own intimate little party.

Phineas and Ferb is without a doubt one of our favorite shows to watch as a family, there aren’t too many children’s shows that my husband and I can watch with the kiddos and enjoy as much as they do, but this is definitely one of them!  We were super excited about the new Phineas and Ferb movie and despite the nasty bug threatening anyone who came into contact with my Lil Man, we made the best of it.  We popped popcorn, got our Phineas and Ferb masks and tattoos and sat down to enjoy the movie.

Since we didn’t get to host a party we had lots of Phineas and Ferb goodies to give away and my kiddos made sure that their friends got their goodie bags even if they didn’t get to enjoy the movie with them and the Phineas and Ferb slings and tattoos were a HUGE hit with ALL of their friends!

Even though our party was a bust we were so glad that we got to take part in the “Phineas and Ferb:  Across the 2nd Dimension” screening party, we loved the movie and can’t wait to see what Phineas and Ferb have up their sleeve next time!

*I received items related to the movie (including a thank you gift) for hosting this party!*

Organization is something that I fear, seriously I am terrible at it! Try as I might (and Lord knows I do try)I can never seem to get and stay organized. Having four children demands that I be somewhat organized so I've made it my mission this summer to get more organized! One of the biggest issues is all of the stuff my children accumulate. No matter how organized I try to get them to be they never seem to take an active interest in keeping their "stuff" neat.

I have always been a huge fan of Command hooks, they are a renters dream! So when I was asked to review Command's new Disney- Themed hooks I was quick to say yes! I knew that this would be the perfect opportunity to "try" and get my kids to be excited about organization!

First let me give you a little information about 3M and Command hooks. 3M Command offers a huge line of mounting products that include; clips, hooks, picture hangers, and many other organization products. The most unique thing about Command hooks is the stretch release technology that allows for a strong hold with no damage when they are removed! The 3M Disney-themed command hooks provide a fun and stylish way for your kids to get and stay organized and they come emblazoned with your kids favorite Disney characters; Hannah Montana, Cars, Disney Pricess, Disney Fairies, and Camp Rock!

As soon as my gift basket arrived (yes 3M sent me the nicest gift basket ever full of Command Hooks) I knew that I had to get serious about my organization project. The first place I started was in my sons room and since his room is already decked out with Cars I thought it was the perfect place to install some of the Cars hooks.

My sons backpack before Command Hooks (if you notice it's help in place by a thumb tack). And after...if you ask me the puppy looks a little happier with the Cars hook!

We also used the hooks to place in the hallway by my daughters' rooms. One of my biggest pet peeves is when both of my oldest girls throw their purses, backpacks, and beach bags all over the floor...or worse on their door knobs.
Using the Disney Fairies and Hannah Montana hooks.

I have to admit that using the 3M Command hooks did make organizing a lot nicer to look at! The new Disney-themed Command hooks are available at mass merchandisers, drug, and craft stores nationwide and retail for between $4.97 and $10.97.
